ARTIFACTS -- SPEAR POINTS AND ARROWHEADS
FROM THE LUMS POND SITE
These are some of the artifacts found at the Lumd Pond site.
They were probably used as spear points and arrowheads. The two at the bottom
are from 3,000 to 5,000 years old, from a period known as the Late Archaic. The two long points
in the middle are from the very end of the Late Archaic period, about 3,000 years ago.
The two triangular points at the top are from the Late Woodland period -- they are less
than 1,000 years old.
We know the approximate ages of these artifacts because they
are made in styles that are found on other sites in the eastern United States
that have been dated by radiocarbon procedures.
