Two hundred years ago, Charles Tilton brought his family to the shores of the mill pond, what we now call Killens Pond, to establish a new life. He was probably a freed slave, perhaps 30 years of age. Although only traces of the Tilton farmstead lie buried on a knoll on the north side of Killens Pond, historical records, such as tax assessments, census records, and Charles Tilton’s will and estate inventory can tell us much about their life here. This page last updated |
