Information for School Groups.

Planning Your Trip

 

Please consider the following information when planning your trip to Cape Henlopen State Park.

Directions
Cape Henlopen State Park is located at 42 Cape Henlopen Drive in Lewes, DE 19958.

From Route 1, take Route 9 for approximately 3.5 miles, following the signs for the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. Entrance to the park is approximately one mile past the ferry entrance.

Once in the Park, follow the signs for Youth Camp 2.

Transportation

All groups are responsible for transportation to and from the REECH facilities. During your stay, transportation will be provided to field sites within the Park. Groups should have at least one vehicle on hand. Park entrances fees will be waived for all vehicles directly associated with the REECH program (Busses and any accompanying vehicles).

Groups should plan to arrive by 10:30 am on Day One, and depart at 2:30 p.m. on Day Two.

Chaperones and Group Size

A chaperone is usually a parent, teacher, or other school staff member that accompanies the group on the REECH trip.  Chaperones are expected to participate in the program, be with the students at all times, and help to maintain group control.

There must be one chaperone of the same gender per dorm room (e.g.  25 female students and 16 male students require a minimum of 2 female adult chaperones and 2 male adult chaperones).

Maximum total group size is 60 participants, students and chaperones.
Minimum total group size is 20 participants, students and chaperones.

What to Bring (and Not)

Please Bring:

  • Lunch for first day
  • Bedding (pillow and sleeping bag or other)
  • Towel
  • Toiletries (soap, shampoo, etc.)
  • Clothing that can be layered (undershirt with shirt and sweatshirt, for example)
  • Old pair of sneakers or boots for wet/muddy activities
  • Second pair of sneakers for dry activities (no flip-flops or open sandals during programs)
  • Plastic bag for wet shoes/socks for the ride home
  • Bug spray/sunscreen and a hat (ticks and sun exposure are two health concerns to be aware of).

Please Do NOT Bring:

  • Electronic devices (cell phones, ipods, games etc.)
    We recommend that electronic devices be left at home. Cape Henlopen State Park or its staff does not accept the responsibility for the loss, damage or theft of such devices. Any abuse of this policy will result in confiscation and storage of electronic device until the end of the session.
  • Money: All expenses during the program are covered in the student fee.
