Anyone 12 and under must be accompanied in their boat by someone 18 or older.

Visitors wanting to paddle the James Branch Water Trail may put in at the Records Pond Boat Ramp and paddle upstream approximately 5 miles to Hitch Pond road. See map.

Guided Paddling Trips

Are you nervous about paddling for the first time? Don't have a kayak or canoe? Perhaps you just want to paddle with a group. Join our state park staff on a guided canoe or kayak trip! Kayak excursions are offered at Trap Pond, Killens Pond, Delaware Seashore, Cape Henlopen and Brandywine Creek. Check out these upcoming paddling adventures! Guided Canoe Trip - Sunset Trip at Brandywine Creek State Park

Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 5 PM

Each of these trips is supervised by an American Red Cross canoe-certified trip leader. We will guide you and your friends and family down the tranquil Brandywine. A naturalist will join you to help with canoe instruction and nature identification as you enjoy the sights gliding down the river. Ages 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Please be aware you and a partner will need to carry your canoe a short distance to the river. Equipment will be provided, be sure to bring plenty of water and a snack and water shoes or sneakers, be prepared to get wet! Space is very limited and advance registration and payment are required. Call the Nature Center at (302) 655-5740 to register. The fee for each trip is $20 per person, a third person in a canoe is $10 (700 lb. maximum capacity). All trips meet at 9 am, at the Nature Center.


Moonlight Kayak at Lums Pond State Park

2nd Annual Delaware Seashore State Park Paddlefest at Delaware Seashore State Park

Sometimes the forgotten part of Delaware Seashore State Park, the bayside marshes are teeming with wildlife and full of local history. Launch at Savages Ditch and explore 4 miles of marsh islands via kayak. Along the way, park interpreters will be stationed throughout the course to talk about points of interest and hand out goodies. At the end, paddlers will be greeted at Tower Rd Bayside with a certificate of completion, photo-ops, and food for purchase from the food truck! Bring your own kayak or rent from Coastal Kayak (reservations required for rentals). This kayaking adventure is for experienced paddlers ONLY! It is a one-way course and transportation is available to bring you back to Savages Ditch. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
