The inside of the house must have been very crowded. Charles and Dolley slept on a feather bed, and there were two straw beds for the children to share. Their belongings were stored in two old pine chests and an old cupboard. The family ate and worked at two pine tables, sitting on six Windsor stools. They ate from wooden trenchers with their wooden spoons. On special occasions, Mrs. Tilton may have brought out an old set of white earthenware dishes.
