Exploring the Charles Tilton Site

Back to Archaeology Main Page

The Charles Tilton site was the home of Charles and Dolley Tilton and their nine children from about 1797 until about 1808. When Mr. Tilton died in December of 1806, his neighbors made an inventory of everything in his house and barn. As a result, we know a lot about activities on the Tilton farm. But we don’t know anything about the buildings and work areas. Delaware State Parks archaeologists and Delaware Time Travelers are excavating the site to find out what the Tilton house, barns, and other buildings looked like when they were located.
