Gary was born in Sussex County, Delaware and is a life-long resident of Delmarva.  He is retired from the Dover Police Department and works as a reserve ranger for Delaware State Parks.  Enjoying access to the parks year-round, Gary captures them at their finest with timeless images that remind the viewer of trips to Delaware’s State Parks.

Gary is a past President of the Milton Arts Guild, and has been published in local publications, including Outdoor Delaware.  Gary lives in Milton, Delaware where his photographs can be seen in the Federal Street Gallery.

Delaware People by Bill Leitzinger

At the Biden Environmental Training Center at Cape Henlopen State Park
Many of the images in this exhibit are of people that photographer Bill Leitzinger met during his travels around Delaware. Over the years, Leitzinger discovered that most Delawareans are friendly, with optimistic and generous spirits. Drawing characteristics from their neighbors to the north and south, the people of Delaware exhibit both southern hospitality and the northern can-do spirit.

During his 35-year photographic career, Leitzinger has worked throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan. He uses a photojournalist style, often capturing his subjects from unique perspectives. He frequently shoots urban scenes, abstract patterns in nature, and casual portraits.  His work is often exhibited in Delaware galleries.

A Delaware native, Leitzinger studied photography at the University of Delaware and the Rhode Island School of Design. For more information or to inquire about the photographer’s work, call (302)584-4631, visit the artist’s website at, or e-mail him at
