For those interested in fishing, a quarter-mile-long pier provides convenient access to the Delaware Bay. The bait and tackle concession at the pier offers fishing supplies and snack foods, and transportation along the pier is available for people with disabilities between April 1st and Oct 31st.

Surf fishing is a popular year-round activity along the park's ocean beaches. Dune crossovers allow pedestrian and vehicle access to the designated fishing areas. A surf fishing vehicle permit is required in order to drive onto the beach. Permits are available online or at the park office.

Family Camping

With so many activities available, visitors may choose to stay a few days at the family campground. Pine-covered dunes are the setting for over 150 spacious sites, most with a water hookup. Camping is available from March 1 through November 30. For family camping, call the Campground Reservation System at
1-877-98 PARKS. For more information, call the campground at (302) 645-2103.

Youth Group Camping

Organized youth groups may camp in a designated primitive area, or arrange to stay in one of the dormitory buildings near the bay shore. Learn more about Primitive Camping or download and print a Primitive Camping Application or a Youth Group Application (pdf requires Adobe Acrobat). For more information, call the Biden Center at
(302) 644-5005.

Beach Plum Island
Nature Preserve

A satellite area of Cape Henlopen State Park offers additional opportunities to explore the Delaware Bay coastline. Beach Plum Island Nature Preserve is located north of the city of Lewes, with vehicle access from Broadkill Beach. Most of this 129-acre barrier island is protected to preserve habitat for native plant and animal species, but surf fishing and beachcombing are permitted along the Delaware Bay shore.

Escape to the Cape, and create your own legends and happy memories at this spectacular maritime park.
