The Environmental Stewardship Program is looking for an individual to fill the following position:
Biological Aide
Individual will survey, monitor and control invasive plant species in state parks and designated natural areas.
Principle Duties:
- Work as part of a crew to control invasive plant species in state parks and designated natural areas
- Assist with plant surveying and identification
- Conduct control efforts by implementing chemical and mechanical removal of invasive plants
- Maintain field equipment
- Assist other resource management projects (including wildlife management, and environmental education)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong work ethic
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to perform hard physical outdoor work in conditions which involve routine exposure to heat, humidity, rain, biting insects, poisonous plants, allergens (no debilitating reaction to insect bites or poison ivy)
- Willingness to operate power tools and use herbicide
- Good communication skills
- Two years of college in an area related to botany, biological sciences, or natural resources
- Interest in land management, species protection, ecosystem restoration and the importance of biodiversity
- Ability and willingness to work with volunteers
Power tool use and herbicide application training provided.
Preferential Qualifications:
- Experience with field identification of plants
- Knowledge and/or; familiarity with Delaware plant species, especially invasive species
- GIS/GPS experience
Term: This is a summertime position with the possibility of being extended into the fall.
Benefits: This is a seasonal position with no standard benefits. Direct deposit of payroll will be required as a condition of employment for new employees.
