1970

Division of Parks and Recreation replaces the State Park Commission as part of the newly formed Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.

Brandywine Springs State Park becomes a New Castle County park.

1973

Delaware Seashore State Park becomes the state’s most heavily visited state park.

1975

White Clay Creek State Park renamed Walter S. Carpenter, Jr. State Park for the Honorary Chairman of the DuPont Company board of directors.

1976

Division develops its own interpretive program after DNES moves to Ashland Nature Center.

Bellevue State Park acquired from the estate of William F. du Pont, Jr.

1977

Bellevue State Park opened for limited public visitation.
