A free one-year state park pass is available for Delaware’s
Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom veterans.
HB 326, which was initiated by the General Assembly and
passed in June, authorizes the Division of Parks and Recreation
to issue a free annual pass to any resident who served
in Iraq for at least 90 consecutive days and has been honorably
discharged.
The Free Military Park Pass shall be good for one year
starting on the date issued. This pass is to be used in
parks that have a vehicle entrance fee. The pass does not
apply to Fort Delaware State Park, Brandywine Zoo or other
facilities or programs that have separate charges such
as camping, nature programs or pavilions.
Each eligible pass holder will be issued a laminated card
that states the individual’s name and the expiration
date of the pass. The pass holder must present the pass
along with photo identification to receive free entry into
a state park. The pass should be displayed in a visible
location on the dashboard in front of the driver to avoid
receiving a notice or fine. The free pass will be issued
through the Division’s Office of Business Services
in Dover.
Note: HB 236 also provides for free hunting and fishing
licenses. The Division of Parks and Recreation and the
Division of Fish and Wildlife will have reciprocal arrangements
to issue the licenses and park passes. In order to eligible for a Free
Military Park Pass, an applicant must:
-
be a resident of the State of Delaware
-
have served in Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation
Enduring Freedom for at least 90 days
-
have been discharged after June 29,
2004
- OR -
-
have been discharged within 12 months of applying
for the pass
-
send a copy of their DD214 papers as proof of military
status (copies may be sent by FAX, internet or mail).
