Trap Pond Outdoor Skills Series: Getting Out of the Woods

Learn the 10 essentials to take with you while traveling in the woods. Find your way out of the woods without a compass and even learn how to comfortably spend a winter's night outside, if it ever comes to that. This program is geared toward beginning hunters, but all are welcome to attend. Pre-registration is required; call (302) 875-5163. Programs meet at the boathouse. $3

Barnes Woods Winter Hike

Come hiking in a winter wonderland (Barnes Woods). Bring warm clothes and comfortable shoes. This trip will start at Trap Pond boathouse and we will drive to Barnes Woods for a 45-minute hike. Finding Your Way

  • DATE: February 27, 2010
  • TIME: 10 a.m.

The moss is growing on both sides of the trees and the clouds are covering the sun. Where are you? Meet at the boathouse to get a primer on map and compass skills. We will learn how to read a map and operate a compass. We will then practice our skills on an orientation course. Dress for the weather and bring comfortable shoes. We will provide the maps and compasses.
