Bringing Folk Art, Traditional Folk Stories and Contemporary Poetry to Life With Eunice LaFate and Dr. Jay Macklin

Local folk artist, Eunice LaFate will provide traditional folk tales from the Caribbean and Jay Macklin will read from her latest book of poetry. Eunice’s art is featured in a newly-published book of poetry by Jay Macklin. Both artists will be available to sign a copy of the book, on sale at the event. Pre-registration suggested. Meet at the Blue Ball Barn. Specially created for kids 4 to 8 years and their families. Have you ever tried to make a cloud disappear? What exactly is happening when cold winds meet warm people, places and things? We will make our own “cloud” experiment with moving molecules, discover wind chilliness and make a draft dodger for the cracks under our doors. Dress for the weather and for having fun. Join our naturalist and learn how to read and decipher animal tracks found at Alapocas Run State Park. For children 6 to 10 years. Looking for something fun to do on this day off from school? Come out and play, while you learn about the properties of ice. Make your own icicles, hike to our frozen pond and experiment with ice. We’ll also take a trip to the Wilmington Ice Skating Club, skates provided! Inside at the Blue Ball Barn It’s winter, but we are thinking Rock Climbing. Join our rock climbing naturalists as we help you get ready to climb. Rope work, knot tying, gear demonstrations and climbing preparation exercises are all a part of the fun and informative afternoon. Specially designed for adult beginning climbers, this one will get you ready to rock! Wear comfortable clothing. We will be inside and not at the Rock Climbing wall for this program. $5 per person

The Underground Railroad will be interpreted through lecture and song by St. Paul’s United Methodist Church’s Pastor Catherine Short, M. Div., and the Children’s and Youth Choirs directed by Rob Kennen. This program is based on the original work developed at Eastern University, The Historical Dynamics of the Underground Railroad©, 1994. Refreshments will be served, and donations will be accepted.
