Trees Kit
In this program that explores autumn, winter or spring, students learn about changes in our natural world. How do flowers, insects, animals and trees change, and why? On the nature hike, students will search for signs of the season in the meadow, forest, creek or marsh and learn how organisms change with the weather. 15 student minimum

A snake's amazing patterns are sometimes excellent camouflage and at other times brilliant warnings. Children will learn basic reptile characteristics, camouflage, and warning colors in this fun and fascinating program. Our resident snakes will visit your classroom and children will create a snake pattern of their own. Senses Kit
Students will use their five senses to explore some fascinating natural objects. Using oral and written communication skills, students practice making observations with their senses during a hike through our Nature Preserve. 15 student minimum

“It’s Not Easy Being a Bunny” by P.D. Eastman is a whimsical and funny story that involves many different mammals. We will read the book, and then use it as a springboard for learning about the characteristics of mammals. This program will have your students on their feet (or paws) as we mimic mammal movement! Children will learn about the nine planets and discover how they orbit around the sun. They will also learn that stars, like people, come in all shapes and ages and many have a story to tell. Early American Culture and Technology

Anthropologists and archaeologists learn about ancient cultures by studying tools and other artifacts. We will follow the example of these scientists and learn about early cultures and what they used to survive. 15 student minimum . Land and Water Kit
Students will gain firsthand experience collecting biotic and abiotic data to analyze the health of our local watershed. Riparian buffer zones, point source and non-point source pollution, and land-use impacts will be discussed and observed in the field. 15 student minimum
Ecosystems in Action

Students will examine the living and non-living factors affecting an ecosystem and determine how organisms in an ecosystem are linked to one another. During the field study portion of the program, students will observe and record data about organisms in their habitat, gaining a better understanding of our Delaware ecosystems. Field study segments can be selected by the teacher depending on the length of time available and teacher needs. Segment choices include ecological succession study, canopy cover survey, track and scat survey, bird survey, graminoid and shrub height survey, and tree height and circumference study.Outreach fees(maximum of 24 students): One program - $80; two consecutive, same-day programs - $140; three consecutive, same-day programs - $190. Our most popular program! Many school groups return year after year to our educational compass course! Students will learn and apply the basic functions of a compass, recognize symbols on a map, relate symbols to physical features in a landscape, and read map legends. Students will also be challenged to develop and apply strategies to solve a problem.

This adventurous program offers students an opportunity to learn about water quality monitoring through hands-on collection of aquatic life forms while canoeing on Brandywine Creek. Students will perform water quality tests and determine the current health of the creek.
