Girl Scout Programs at Delaware Seashore State Park


All badge programs are developed to meet specific badge requirements for specific age groups, however most programs can be offered to all ages.

Rosie’s Story: A Better Beach for Everyone

Girl Scout Daisies (Grades K-1)
At the Indian River Life-Saving Station at Delaware Seashore State Park
COST: $5 per person
MIN. 8/MAX. 20
Earn your A Better Beach for Everyone badge by coming to the beach and learning the importance of keeping our beach clean. Girls will test out their acting skills and take part in a play of “Rosie’s Story.” The troop will participate in a beach clean-up followed by a picnic lunch in the courtyard.
NOTE: One adult per child will be expected to stay for duration of program. A bag lunch needs to be packed.
All badge requirements will be met.

Potter Badge

Girl Scout Brownies (Grades 2-3)
WHERE: Indian River Life-Saving Station at Delaware Seashore State Park
COST: $10 per person
MIN. 8/MAX. 20

Understand pottery and its’ historical ties to the Native American tribe, the Nanticoke. Learn about the presence of the Nanticoke here on Delaware’s seashore. Participants will make a clay pot to take home using a simple technique.
*Most badge requirements will be met.

Hiker Badge

Girl Scout Brownies (Grades 2-3)
WHERE: Holts Landing State Park
COST: $5 per person
MIN. 10/MAX. 30

Get outdoors and participate in a guided hike along the Sea Hawk Trail. Scouts will identify plants and animals and enjoy a picnic lunch under the pavilion.
NOTE: A bag lunch needs to be packed.
*All badge requirements will be met.

Geocacher Badge

Girl Scout Juniors (Grades 4-5)
WHERE: Fresh Pond Tract at Delaware Seashore State Park
COST: $8 per person
MIN. 8/MAX. 20

Understand the rules of a popular pastime known as Geocaching. Girls will split into teams to find the locations of all caches along the Prickly Pear Trail, using a GPS unit. This is a race to beat your fellow girl scouts and be the first back to the start of the trail!
NOTE: Program will begin at the Indian River Life-Saving Station and scouts will need to be transported to Fresh Pond Tract.
*All badge requirements will be met.

Jeweler Badge

Girl Scout Juniors (Grades 4-5)
WHERE: Indian River Life-Saving Station at Delaware Seashore State Park
COST: $15 per person, including adults
MIN. 8/MAX. 20

Scouts will make a sea glass jewelry pendant to take home with them using a simple wire cage technique. This is a beginner’s course, everyone is welcome.
NOTE: All supplies will be provided. Participants may bring their own piece of sea glass.
*Most badge requirements will be met.

Playing the Past Badge

Girl Scout Juniors (Grades 4-5)
WHERE: Indian River Life-Saving Station at Delaware Seashore State Park
COST: $10 per person

Go back in time to discover the contribution a female scientist, Martha Coston, made to the United States Life-Saving Service that ultimately led to the saving of many lives. Explore the role of women during the time of the United States Life-Saving Service.
*All badge requirements will be met.

Animal Habitats Badge

Girl Scout Juniors (Grades 4-5)
WHERE: Indian River Life-Saving Station at Delaware Seashore State Park
COST: $5 per person
MIN. 10/ MAX. 25

Explore the salt marsh by investigating the plants and animals that call this habitat home and participating in a marsh walk. Learn the importance of an estuary and how it is a major contributor to the success of an ecosystem. Be prepared, you will get muddy!
NOTE: Participants must wear close-toed shoes and clothes that they do not mind getting muddy. Everyone will be transported to the site by a park vehicle.
*Most badge requirements will be met.

Night Owl Badge

Girl Scout Cadettes (Grades 6-8)
WHERE: Indian River Life-Saving Station at Delaware Seashore State Park
COST: $10 per person
MIN. 8/MAX. 20

Explore the night sky at Delaware Seashore State Park! A park interpreter will identify constellations and tell the legends behind the stars. Remember to bring a pillow and blanket as this is the only program you can enjoy lying down.
NOTE: If it is too cloudy to see the stars, there will be a second program planned to meet all badge requirements.

Exploration Kayak Tour of Delaware’s Inland Bays

Girl Scouts Ages 13 and up
WHERE: Savages Ditch at Delaware Seashore
COST: 35 per person
MIN. 4/MAX. 10 (including chaperones)

Paddle the marshes of Rehoboth Bay and identify species of marine animals and plants seen throughout the tour. Discuss the human impact on the water quality of the Inland Bays. Participants will be provided with basic instruction and all equipment.
NOTE: This program is only available May through September. Participants must wear close-toed shoes and bring suntan lotion and a bottle of water.

Camp Out at the Beach!

Girl Scouts All Ages
WHERE: Indian River Life-Saving Station at Delaware Seashore State Park
COST: $25 per person
MIN. 8/ MAX. 25

Stay overnight at the beach! Scouts will campout in the Indian River Life-Saving Station’s courtyard. Everyone will head out onto the beach to build a campfire, have dinner and s’mores, and tell ghost stories. A park interpreter will identify constellations in the night sky and tell the legends behind them.
NOTE: One adult must be present per six children.
*This program meets all requirements for the Girl Scout Juniors Camper Badge.
