Auburn Heights Preserve Outreach Program

What's in the Water?

Grade Level: 3-4
Program Length: 1 hour

Most rivers and streams look clear to the naked eye, but toxins can still hide in the water. This program explores the industrial past of the Red Clay Creek and the local paper mills that were here. Students will perform water testing for pH, lead, mercury, and more. We'll discover what kind of toxins were left when the paper mills went out of business, and learn how these toxins affect the waterways today and how to fix the problem.

Fee: $4 per student
