Fort Delaware State Park Field Trip

Living History at Fort Delaware

Grade Level: 2-12
Program Length: 70 minutes (total visit time from your bus to your return to the mainland 3.5 hours)

Step back in time at Fort Delaware and learn about history in this engaging living history program, based entirely on primary historical research materials. Students get an introduction to fort history and the sources that tell the story, and then are active participants in the living history program. Your class will meet ‘people from the past’ in first person character, and they may include a Union garrison soldier, a prisoner, the school teacher at the island, a blacksmith, and a free black man who came to the fort as a contraband. After your program your class will have time for lunch and fort exploration.

Fee: $7 per student, teachers and chaperones extended student rate
