Delaware State Parks has the PERFECT opportunity for your troop’s community service project. No matter the age or interests of those in your troop, these short-term projects are designed by park staff with your input to match your skills, interests and schedule.

Customized Projects

These projects can touch just about any aspect of the park and its activities. These projects will be developed by the park staff with your input to meet your troop’s interests, needs, and schedule and to make sure that they are appropriate for your age. From Civil War history to animals, from trail building to historic buildings, from birds that fly to kites that fly, the SKY IS THE LIMIT. View the list of categories these projects can include.

STANDARD PROJECTS

Every park has standard projects that are always available. Depending on the troop interest and skill level, these projects can be coordinated in as little as a few days and include, but are not limited to, the following:

These are annual events that take place in Delaware State Parks that your troop can assist with. These are fun, educational, and many come with special benefits—like free admission to the event or t-shirts for participants.

LONG TERM PROJECTS

Adopt-A-Trail

Your troop can agree to monitor and maintain a section of trail in one of our parks with a minimum of four work outings per year. Members are taught by park professionals and learn what to look for and how to maintain the trails. You will also learn some basic plant identification and invasive species eradication, to boot. Your troop’s work is recognized with a sign at the trail head!

Adopt-A-Beach

Join hundreds of others adopting a section of coastline. In order to participate in the program, you agree to monitor and clean the coastline at least twice a year. Your troop will learn how to perform the service as well as how to conduct litter counts as part of an international research project.

Adopt-a-Flower Bed or Rose Garden, or Native Species Garden

Your troop can help to maintain these by planting, mulching, and providing care.

For instance: exchange a service project for a campsite. This is an opportunity for older scouts to combine camping experience with work on a service project. This is not available at all parks or at all times
