Flexible Start and End Dates

Who is Eligible for Summer Service:
- High school diploma or equivalent, or pursuit of high school diploma
- Proof of citizenship or eligibility to work in the United States
- Ability to work weekends and some evenings. Mostly day participation.

Environmental Educator
Looking for a volunteer opportunity that can have a lasting impact? Want to help share a love for the natural world? In this position you will have the opportunity to ignite a lifelong appreciation of the outdoors and expand peoples understanding of the environment surrounding them. Teach and educate visitors about the many natural, historical and cultural wonders in our parks by leading programs, tours, summer camps, and outreach activities.

Historical Educator
Bring the past to LIFE! March to the beat as a Civil War gunner, gaze out to sea in a WWII Coastal Defense Battery, walk in the buildings where decisions were made that helped form our state, or demonstrate life-saving skills for wrecked ships as a living history interpreter. You will assist in conducting first- or third-person living history educational interpretation programs at:
Fort Delaware: Civil War 1864
Fort Miles at Cape Henlopen: WWII
Indian River Life-Saving Station: 1900's Life-Saving
First State Heritage Park at Dover: State History

Natural Areas Management
Love the environment? Want to help keep it that way? This position will work in the Natural Areas program, promoting the wise management and conservation of wildlife and plant species within Delaware State Parks.
Professional and Creative Services
Members help run statewide programs from the Division's Central Offices. In the Director's Office, members help manage the AmeriCorps program. Work in our Creative Services Section in Marketing and Public Relations. Assist the Chief of Environmental Education and help with grant reviews (including GIS/GPS). Learn State of Delaware fiscal policy and procedures in Accounting. Perform real design work in our Architectural Design group or in the Planning Office. Maintain exhibits and collections in our Folklife and Curation sections.

Historical Researcher
Help research our past...so we can plan our future! In this position, you will work with our professional staff under the direct supervision of our Division Historian. Perform groundbreaking historical research on the more than 400 historical buildings and sites in Delaware State Parks, including Civil War-era Fort Delaware, World War II-era Fort Miles, and The First State Heritage Park at Dover, among others. Utilize the best practices in historical research, have special access to archives, and see your research bear fruit in the interpretive and historical programming in the parks!

Positions are available throughout the state.
Living Allowance
Summer Members receive a living allowance of $462.50 paid every 2 weeks of their service.
Flexibility
Service beginning and ending dates are flexible. We at the Delaware State Parks AmeriCorps Program (DSPAP) understand members' need for time during the summer, to work another job, for vacation, or for other activities. Our focus is on helping you complete your hours of service.
Educational Scholarship
Upon successful completion of their service, members receive an educational award of $1,250.00 which can be used for future educational expenses or for current student loans up to seven (7) years after their completion of service.
Uniforms
All DSPAP members are provided with service uniforms. Historical interpreters are provided with period reproduction costumes for their service period.
Training
All DSPAP members receive on-going training and real opportunities for self-development.
Support of Staff and Volunteers
DSPAP members are not alone! Members work as part of the park team, alongside park professionals, volunteers and other DSPAP members.
