Victorian Autumn Harvest Party at Auburn Valley

Emerge yourself into the experience of a harvest time house party of the late 1800s. Enjoy a scenic outdoor autumn inspired tea during peak foliage on the victorian estate of Auburn Heights. This program will include a light afternoon tea refreshments on the mansion porch. The mansion will be decorated based on period newspaper articles of autumn house parties around 1900 and a short class on Victorian dance instruction will be led at 3 o' clock in the parlor. The party ends with a "Marshmallow Roast" and campfire which were often the way to end autumn Victorian-era house parties for young people. Formal attire or costumes not required but welcome.

You'll enjoy a fun-filled wagonride around the park followed by a cozy 45-minute campfire. Bring a blanket, food and beverages (non-alcoholic) and settle in for a relaxing 30-minute trip; rides leave on time. No extra persons may join you at the campfire. Relax on a leisurely wagon ride through the Bellevue grounds, see all the beauty that the park has to offer in Fall. Afterward, enjoy a cozy campfire. Introduction to Forest Bathing at Killens Pond

This one-hour Introduction to Forest Bathing will be a condensed version of the longer 2 or 3 hour guided nature and forest therapy walks. The walk will provide a taste of the healing and wellness benefits of forest bathing. We will move slowly and cover a short distance, connecting to nature with an open heart and with our senses through a series of guided, sensory invitations. Research has shown that 'bathing in the environment of the forest' has many positive health benefits. In the first phase of the lunar calendar, the sun and moon align, hiding the moon from the earth. This provides the darkest night of the month. Perfect for observing constellations and star clusters. Join us at Auburn Valley State Park for an evening of stargazing. Join the park naturalist at the Oversee farm trail to enjoy some of the darkest skies in Delaware and take advantage of the clear skies in winter for viewing. From accident to art, join Alapocas Run and Auburn Valley State Parks to learn how a Victorian invention called Vulcanized Fibre revolutionized modern American life from steam trunks to fuses, and its connection to the First State with 70% of the world’s supply made right here in Delaware. With recovered archival footage you’ll learn how a Canadian artist in the 20th century used the material to create sculptures in her own unique style: Scoraform. Afterwards, artist Kelly Martin will be teaching a workshop on making three-dimensional vase covers out of paper in an homage to this forgotten method of using paper products in art. Stories of the Green Walking Tour at First State Heritage Park

The Dover Green has been the heart of this capital since its 18th-century founding. Led by a historic interpreter, experience the stories of the sites and people that have defined the First State experience. There's always something new to discover each time you visit First State Heritage Park! Walking tours are offered twice daily (Weds, Thurs, Fri, Sat) at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., departing from the John Bell House Interpretive Center (43 The Green). Legislative Hall, Delaware's Capitol, offers guided tours from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays when the site is open. It is closed on Saturdays except for the first Saturday of each month. We encourage guests to wear comfortable shoes and bring water for all walking tours. Be advised that they frequently cover uneven ground and historic cobblestones.
